Change in Newsletter

Hi,

We have changed the newsletter module and enhanced its performance. The features included in the newsletter module are

1. Now when one hits send button a pop up window opens up and this pop up window continuously flushes the mail sending status report.

2. When mail sending gets completed, the pop up window closes and the parent window gets redirected to home page.

Caution: If  any body blocked pop up window the feature will not work.  In this regard one needs to set www.myfirecompanies.com from the blocked up website list. Also, mail sending will fail if any body closes the popped up window before the completion of the settings.

I wish you will enjoy this new newsletter.

Firecompanies Permission

Hi,

For the past few days, there has been a few issues regarding user permission. We would like to explain the permission module in a better way, so that there is no ambiguity about its usage.

When the permission module was originally planned, there was three kinds of access levels for users.

  • Full : User can use the module fully
  • Add/Edit: User can either add or edit the content but cannot delete.
  • View: User can only view the posted content.

Later based on popular demand we tried to change the way it works and tried to introduce the following access levels.

  • Full: User can use the module fully.
  • Approved: User can add/edit content but before the content goes live, it needs approval from admin.
  • View: User can only view the content.

Now the challenges we faced are:

1. Most of the modules of MyFireCompanies are very old and were not planned keeping in mind the future need of access level control.

2. Think of a situation when a user edits a live content and the content cannot go live unless admin approves it. In that case two copies of the content needs to be stored. One is which is original and currently live and the next is the edited content. Myfirecompanies being a 4 years old boy was not equipped to handle it; Since then it was not planned.

What is the way out then? or Shall it happen in future?

The bottom line is Yes! We are in the process of developing and redesigning MyFireCompanies from scratch, the new version of MyFireCompanies use the latest technologies and will have all the features recommended by our clients.

We will certainly overcome these difficulties with your continued support and cooperation. Thanks!

Hello Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to present you a brief introduction of new email system. And This part will focus on adding and importing address book.

Login Screen

1. Login: In the login area you need to provide your email address and password. That is if your email address is techsupport@myfirecompanies.com , in the first text box you need to put ‘techsupport’ and in the next textbox ( after @ symbol) you need to provide the domain name; in this case ‘myfirecompanies.com’ . Provide password and login.

Inbox

2.  Importing Contacts and Adding Contacts: You can add contact by clicking the New Contact menu available in the top bar of address book display panel. After selecting New contact, you need to provide the contact name, address, email address etc and you have to click on add. Once you are done and have added all contacts , you can click OK to finish.

To import contact, click on the import contact icon at the top panel icon bar. The options opens a page which let you upload a csv file. In this regard I would like to explain various option available in the page.  A CSV file contains values separated by comma. A typical CSV file format is something like this

XXXXX, YYYYY, 111111

ZZZZZ, BBBBBB, 222222

So in your case it would be something similar to this format

First Name, Surname, Email

Daniel, Ioven, dan@firecompanies.com

Joe, Doe, joe@xyzavc.com

Once you upload the file, the next screen will take some values form the first row and will ask you to match the values against the field names. You need to match and click on import to complete the process.

Handouts :: Sort Order Changed

A small modification done in handouts module of myfirecompanies.com . Before the change when a file uploaded using the module, the file used to get added at the bottom and user has to re sort the file listing order. But, now after the change the file gets added to the top. we believe this will help user as the default sort order will start from recently uploaded file.

Changes in Newsletter

Hi,

Some modifications are done in newsletter module. This is the first set of the series of modifications scheduled for newsletter module. In this regard, let me brief you the changes done in the newsletter module.

1. The first big change is now when you go to send newsletter, you need to put a valid email address in the from field. This will help us to send you a mail to the given email address which will notify you of the initiation process.

2. The second change is we did away with multiple selection option. Now you need to select one value from the drop down. The values are A. Everyone ( This includes all subscribers, company administrators and company users) B. Subscribers , C. Company Administrators and D. Company Users.

3. In the next set of change we will separate notification email address from ‘From’ field. All from email will be in the format no-reply@companydomainname.com . Also we are planning status notification mail when all emails from the list are delivered.

If you want to suggest anything for the improvement process, please submit the same as comments for this post.

Looking forward for a better mfirecompanies.com

Myfirecompanies Mail Launched

Its indeed a great news that we ultimately came up with a complete new system of email system. Over the past few weeks email was really a headache after we change the server. The reasons behid this can be attributed to various factors. However if I just categorize them, we faced the following problems.Firecompanies New Email System

1. Unnecessary queuueing of email.

2. Emails not reaching mailbox properly.

3. Late delivery of emails.

4. Loss of emails.

Again, the greatest news that now every company can manage their own emails. Can create new emails for their firefighters.

Cheers!!
